Workshop Facilitation & Short Bio

Denise Reytan is a Berlin-based artist and jewelry designer, born in Düsseldorf. She completed her training at the Pforzheim Goldsmiths' School and subsequently studied product design with a focus on jewelry design at the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences (Peter Behrens School of Arts). Later, she conducted research as an artist-in-residence at the IRAA Institute of Research in Applied Arts and at the Trier University of Applied Sciences, in the Department of Gemstone and Jewellery in Idar-Oberstein, on the subject of "valuations." Reytan holds teaching positions worldwide, such as at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts (KHiO), Hiko Mizuno College of Jewelry in Tokyo, and the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences. She currently teaches at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK) on the subject of "body." She regularly participates in international exhibitions.

In her work, she explores the contrasts between materials, values, and personal content. She questions the conventional concept of jewelry and is interested in the transformation from real to fake and vice versa. Reytan's jewelry making resembles a form of material painting. She combines various materials such as silver and gemstones with her own cast plastic objects to create unique compositions that resemble wearable paintings.
