Information about the goldsmithing course
Procedure & technical content
In our goldsmithing courses, craftsmanship is the main focus. At the beginning, you will learn the essential basics that will optimally prepare you for practical work. Handcraft promotes focused work, accuracy, and endurance — skills that are transferable and strengthen patience, attentiveness, and diligence.
In the first sessions, you will focus on basic techniques such as sawing and filing. Afterward, you will learn more advanced methods such as soldering, forging, annealing, bending, rolling, hammering, and stamping. Building on this, you will develop your own projects and deepen your understanding of the basic techniques through independent work.
As you gain experience, your freedom in execution also grows. The longer you participate, the more you can try out the techniques that interest you. How you ultimately implement these individually in your piece of jewelry is entirely up to you.
Tooling fees & material costs
The course fee includes a tool charge of €10 for 8 sessions. This covers the consumption of saw blades, drill bits, milling cutters, brass, solder, and other essential supplies.
Please keep in mind that due to significant price fluctuations, the cost of silver is calculated daily based on the amount used. You should budget approximately €50 to €100 for the entire course. Incidentally, gold is not used in our beginner courses.
Course extension & advanced techniques
If you find that you would like to attend further sessions, please let the instructor know in good time. This allows us to plan effectively and helps avoid any delays for you.
Over time, you will notice that the longer you participate and the more curious you become, the more your techniques will deepen. You will develop an ever-better feel for materials, tools, and processes.
You are welcome to bring your own ideas, which we can develop and implement together, or focus on learning a specific technique to shape your next project—both are possible.
Cancellations & Rebookings
The courses begin on a set date and end automatically after 8 or 10 weeks. If you would like to continue, you should register again or notify the instructor in good time, 2 weeks in advance.
Should the instructor be unavailable, the course will still take place with a substitute.
Cancellations are possible up to 4 weeks before the start of the course. However, a processing fee of 25% will be charged.
Preparation & Safety Instructions
Each course begins with a short introduction tailored to the respective instructor and the specific workflows. You will receive all the important information regarding materials and tools to ensure you work safely.
To ensure you get the best possible start to the course, it is recommended that you pay attention to appropriate clothing and the general instructions in advance:
Appropriate clothing
- It is best to wear cotton (no synthetic fibers), as we work with fire
- Come in clothing that can get dirty, or bring an apron
- Wear closed-toe, sturdy shoes
- Tie back long hair
General instructions
- Please be punctual so that we can start together
- Put your mobile phone aside while working so that you remain focused and it stays safe
- Only handle workpieces after soldering with pliers or gloves — they are very hot
- Be aware of open flames and fire, which are used during work
- Use chemicals (e.g., pickling agents) only according to instructions and do not mix them
- Keep your workspace clean to ensure it remains safe for everyone
- Dispose of waste (e.g., metal filings, polishing pastes) as indicated
